The Unintentionally Hilarious President
New flash: During President Bush’s tour of Galilee last week he received a crystal icon with the following inscription: “Blessed are those who are peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” Actually, the president isn’t exactly known for keeping company with peacemakers. Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld could probably count their blessings on one hand.
George W. Bush must be the most obtuse politician in modern history. Has no one on his staff considered what Israeli and Palestinian citizens might think about his visit?
Apparently it hasn’t dawned on them that Middle East residents are probably saying: “Gee this guy is over here telling us what to do, but he’s not very popular in his own country. By this time next year he’ll be gone. The new president will likely toss all of Bush’s initiatives out the window the way he did with President Clinton’s initiatives, so why should we follow Bush’s lead? He has ignored us for seven years anyway.”
All in all, President Bush’s effort at pushing the Middle East peace process forward is good for our country. It shows the world that the US is committed for the long haul. And although each administration seems intent on following a different path to peace, at least we’re still on the road.
Well, Mr. Bush has now left the rolling hills of Galilee for the more familiar oil fields of Kuwait. The Emir is filling him in on the wellspring of democracy currently flowing through the lands once ruled by pharaohs.

Biblically inscribed crystal icons are cool and all, but that was just a bad choice! Peacekeepers as children of God … for George Bush? I would have suggested something from Proverbs 6:16-19 –
“Six things are hated by the Lord; seven things are disgusting to him:
“Eyes of pride, a false tongue, hands which take life without cause;
“A heart full of evil designs, feet which are quick in running after sin;
“A false witness, breathing out untrue words, and one who lets loose violent acts among brothers.”
Then again, they didn’t ask me.
